With a unique blend of Old World craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology, Boyd's Country Woods repairs, restores, and preserves your antiques and family treasures. We believe in preserving the beauty and integrity of the items entrusted to our care. We avoid using techniques which may compromise the beauty and integrity of the item. We believe in following the original artist's intent and true art form. Items we have repaired or restored: Belleek, Meissen, Fenton, Hummel, Roseville, Waterford, Galway, Killarney, Edinburgh, McCoy, Hull, Moorcraft, Shawnee, Weller, Rookwood, American Cut Glass, Kaiser, Lenox, Boehm, Andrea, Czech Glass, Staffordshire, Depression Glass, Red Wing, Norton, Blue & White Stoneware, Spongeware, Spatterware, Redware, Crocks & Jugs, Occupied Japan, Cloudy/Foggy Bottles, Decanters, and Jars, various soda, whiskey, and other types of jars and bottles, and many other items. We are available for on-site antique shows and other special events. For available dates, please contact us. Special Notes: All repairs and restorations are done strictly on a best effort basis. There is always a risk that item cannot be restored or is damaged further during the process. All liability for breakage and results remains that of the client. Definition of surface types include stem rim, stem base, top of vase, base/bottom of vase, etc. We offer complete inside and outside bottle, decanter, and jar cleaning and repair for cloudy, foggy, and dug-up items. Most items are restored to reflect their original beauty and care is taken to preserve as much of the item's original appearance. Repairs are not always completely invisible or undetectable. Caution must be used in handling of restored items. They are not "fired" to the durability of the original surface. We will provide warnings concerning food use, dishwasher use, soaking, or cleaners. Estimated time for the repair/restoration process varies based on damage. At events or shows, chip repairs to crystal or glass may be completed within an hour or so to being ready the next day. In studio chip repairs or cleaning to bottles, crystal, decanters, glass, and jars may take one (1) to two (2) weeks and full repairs/restorations two (2) to four (4) months. Do not be shocked if the estimated time is over four (4) months, as heavily damaged, special materials or color requirements, or large items will require much longer to process. Every effort will be made to estimate the time needed for the repair/restoration, but there may be instances when unforeseen circumstances will cause delays. Please be patient, as repairs/restoration often require delicate and time consuming processes. We do not rush a project. We follow a very strict repair/restoration process. Each phase in the process has check offs and there are waiting periods between select project phases, i.e. an item which must be unglued and cleaned, will have a 48-72 hour waiting period before starting the next project phase. The item must be completely clean and dry. Estimates If an item is brought in or received at an event or show, an on the spot, ballpark price estimate can often be given. However, this is not the binding estimate, as we may find additional damage or other problems when we complete an in-depth analysis and review in the studio. If the client approves the repair/restoration project, a deposit of one half of the low end estimate is required from the client. A client may also email us requesting an estimate for an item. The email must include client's name, address, phone and email contact data, description of item, and at least three photos of the item. An estimate fee of $ 30.00 must be paid in advance before an estimate is provided to a client. This fee is non-refundable, but will be applied to the balance if the project is approved by the client. After we have completed an in depth analysis and review of the item in our studio, we will contact the client with the estimate figures and an explanation of repair/restoration requirements. The client will also receive a paper copy of the estimate via email or fax. If the client approves the item for repair/restoration, a deposit will be required before starting the repair/restoration process. The deposit is usually one half of the low end estimate. Upon receipt of the deposit, the item will be assigned a project number and placed in a process queue. | When the customer delivered the Blue Danube candleholder below, it appeared only one arm had been broken from the main body. However, after using a UV light and careful analysis, it was determined that all three arms had been broken earlier and poorly repaired. |
| The candleholder was completely taken apart resulting in a total of nine (9) different broken pieces. Old glue and other bonding materials were removed, item completely cleaned, all parts rebonded, missing chips filled and leveled, and the candleholder cold glazed back to its original color. The candleholder was now properly restored and ready for use at Thanksgiving dinner. |
